HI,

I am looking for an autonomous Cisco AP.

and found this link http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/wireless/buyers-guide.html#~indoorac-wave1.

from here i can see 3700 and 2700 support autonomous mode.

however in Cisco support forum, some are discussing on the same and saying the 2 series support autonomous mode with limitted fuctionality and shall only be used for site survey only.

Please advise.

Thanks.

jimmy

I've run both in autonomous mode with some 802.1X configs and multiple SSIDs with no issues but that's not to say there is a full feature-set with those models. Your best bet would be to see what IOS they support and then check that IOS' release notes.

Cheers,

Ric

hi Ric,

i saw from the release note below that 3700 and 2700 are started to be supported in Autonomous mode in 15.3(3)JAB.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/15-3-3/configuration/guide/cg15-3-3/cg15-3-3-chap1-overview.html

before 15.3(3)JAB, those release for 3700 only for site survey only.

Please advise.

jimmy

Yes, when it came out initially it suppose to use for site survey only.

But with later software full autonomous features support added. So you should be fine with use 3700 as autonomous AP

Rasika

hi Rashika and Ric,

What part number of the AP should i look for?

in CCW tool, i only found AIR-AP3702I-UXK9 and AIR-CAP3702I-S-K9.

is the AIR-AP3702I-UXK9, an autonomous AP or controller-based AP?

Thanks.

jimmy

We can provide a part number but you'd be better off talking to a vendor rep and asking their advice and also being certain the AP is suitable for your requirements as they aren't cheap!

AIR-CAP2702I-x-K9 where x is your country code

or

AIR-CAP3702I-x-K9 where x is your country code

That is for a single AP that will come as lightweight mode by default so you'll need to convert it to Autonomous if you want to use it without a WLAN Controller.

Again this is just general information so don't rely on myself or Rasika to provide 100% foolproof guidance with this as we do not know your circumstances fully and do not work for Cisco.

Yep that sounds about right.

I am running version 15.3(3)JAB with no issues - multiple SSIDs with dot1x PEAP/MSCHAPv2

Cheers,

Ric
