Hello community,
I have difficulties finding answers to the following questions.. regarding smart licensing.
1. if using on-prem satellite with licenses, what happens when a satellite is unreachable and I need to join AP?
I only read that notification is sent, but for how long satellite could be unreachable and how many AP could join?
2. there is some limitation regarding license pool.. but can I use licenses from the same pool between 5520 and Catalyst 9800 / virtual one/ or 9800-L?

Thanks,
Marek

if that is critical part you need to plan in a such a way Sattelite server always availble.

Once Licensed the device, it just poll only for compliance check.

I do not see any issue related to Obboarding, since you already have License in WLC right ?

Yes I have Licenses in WLC, but it happens that from time to time AP is disassociated and number of APs could decrease,

I assume there is some grace period like in R/Ss world, but did not find if it is 30 days.. or 60/90,

Cisco 5520 - You don't need smart licensing unless you have SD-Fabric. Use RTU licensing, this doesn't need any PAK or internet connectivity. It's a honor based licensing scheme. Yes, smart licensing works here, but I do not know the behavior when the WLC is out of sync with smart account as I have never used smart licensing in any AireOS platform and no plans to use it in the future as well.

Cisco 9800 - License restrictions are not implemented strictly in any 9800 platform yet. So incase if your on-prem SSM loose internet connectivity it will not have any impact. You can still have new AP's reporting to the controller. My preference would be to go with SLR or PLR licensing if the WLC's are not in HA.

You can use any license you purchased for 9800 in 5520 as it includes the entitlements. But if you have AP adder licenses in 5520 and want to use them in 9800 then you have to purchase AIR-DNA licenses.
