Cisco WLC active/passive port mode

Hello!

We using Cisco WLC 2504 wireless controller in our production environment. It connects to core switches (see topology in attachment).

port config on the switches are same:

interface GigabitEthernet0/9

switchport access vlan 465
switchport mode access
switchport nonegotiate
spanning-tree portfast
spanning-tree bpduguard enable

WLC working corretly only if we shutdown port on any of two switches.

Question is: does WLC support any active/passive mode for it's physical ports, i.e. if active port is up, passive is down, and if active port turns to down (when SW2 reboots, for example) passive becomes up?

Hello,
at first I see that you have configured port on switch as Access.

WLC has its ports in trunk mode. And it is not possible to change mode.

This means that you need to use (on WLC) VLAN 0 as untagged VLAN, because of access mode of port on switch.

And as consequence of this configuration, you will have all in one VLAN (all regarding WLC = management + data of all SSIDs).

Do you have LAG mode turned off ?

Please send me screenshots of CONTROLLER--GENERAL tab.
And CONTROLLER-INTERFACES tab. You can also send configuration of each interface.

Sorry that I request screenshots, but I am not familiar with CLI on WLC.

And regarding active/passive mode... You can configure port number and BACKUP PORT for interface. But LAG mode must be disabled

Guys, thank you for operational and important information, it's helped me to setups WLC correctly, active-passive ports are working.

There are addtional information about this in scenario 3 here:

Here are two scenarios you can do with a controller. You can enable LAG which you would need to create an etherchannel, if LAG is disabled, you can only use two ports for your design.  With LAG disabled, you can define a primary port and a secondary port under the interface. So you can define all your interfaces including management to use port 1 for example and the port 2 if the primary is down.  You can also define your management to use port 1 but another interface to use port 2 as the primary. So it depends on how you want traffic to flow.  Hope this helps.
