Hi All,

Running fabric in a box on with wireless enabled, on a stack of Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches (C9300L-48UXG-4X / C9300L-24P-4X).

Need to upgrade the WLC version from 17.3.4 to 17.6.4 - Can this be done on the WLC only or does the stack need to be upgraded?

Any procedures would be helpful, using DNAC Version 2.3.3.6

Cheers,

Which switch IOS version do you have? I would keep both on the same verion. As we can see on the compatibility matrix, cisco inform only one IOS version for both.

Hi Flavio Miranda,
IOS version for the switches are 17.3.4. So if I upgrade the switch stack to my required version of code 17.6.4 the WLC version will automatically upgrade to the same version as the switch IOS?

The WLC and the Switch IOS are two different thing.  The upgrade will not be automatic.  But the version must match

Check this doc and you will read this:

"Select and download the sub-package version that matches the Cisco IOS XE image installed on the switch."

Before you pull the trigger on upgrading to 17.6.4 note that the recommended version, for both the switches and WLC, is 17.6.5.

Refer to the SDA compatibility matrix Flavio shared and https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/214814-recommended-releases-for-catalyst-9200-9.html#toc-hId--439693318 so using an old, and not recommended, version of IOS doesn't seem like a good idea to me!
