If you need 3850 to run as WLC, then you have to keep it in 16.3.x code & no upgrade possible.

I would suggest to look at alternative solutions (3504/5520 WLCs) & moving away from converged access wireless.

Be aware that Cisco has admitted that the implementation of CWA and 3650/3850/Sup8E had some major issues.
Not a lot of people have achieved any successes with this design.

And which is your suggestion to configure wireless controllers on 3850 boxes.

They were bought for this purpose too.

Is it possible to transfert AP licences from 3850 to Wireless controller ? (no charge with licensing teams)

Thanks

It’s different license so the answer would be no.

I'm using Denali 16.3.7 with converged wireless setup and it seems to be the most stable Denali release so far. It's also cisco recommended version. Note that converged access is not supported beyond Cisco IOS XE Denali 16.3.x

Hope that helps.
