Client Location Accurracy

Rob Johnson

I have a case I'm working where an MSE is tracking wireless clients and the clients are showing up on the map where they shouldn't be.

I know there are certain requirements to get good location accurracy like the number of APs hearing the device, RSSI and SNR-

What of the show client commands are the best to run to make sure I'm meeting at least the 3 requirements above and are there any other commands I should be looking at?

thanks, rob

Just to add.... I have seen this issue also when the AP's are placed incorrectly on the map.  The question is, how bad is the data or should I say the location NCS/PI is showing the client as to where the client really is?  In some environments with areas that can attenuate signal, adding walls and specifying the attenuation has helped many of my customers track clients better.  There are many things that can throw off how location is presented to you from NCS/PI, and it was always best for me to review their RF and AP placements before I even start looking at the NCS/PI or MSE.  Many times then it lead to performing a calibration.

Thanks,

Scott

I'm having this problem too.  I noticed that the floor dimensions under map editor are way off.  It should be 12,000 sq ft or so and comes up at less than 1,000.  Seems that this should be correct in order for location services to work properly but it will be a LOT of trouble to change them all.  Can someone verify that the floor/building dimensions should be accurate in order for this to work?  Thanks much

Yes it should be.

Scott

Good to know.  Thanks!

Also... AP locations should be accurate... I have seen installers place AP's in the wrong location than what they were told:)

Pretty sure they are correct but I'm verifying as I go.  Thanks again

Yeah... I typically would do a walk-through myself and if one is wrong... I have them verify everything again:)

Thanks,

Scott
