Upgraded our 5520 controller from 8.5.151 to 8.10.142.0. This was due to needing to support 9130 APs. We replaced the older 3500's and 3600's with 9130's (as 3500 and 3600's were EOL). We have Symbol Workabout Pro4 scanners. They worked fine on 8.5.151.0 on all APs (3500's, 3600's, and 3700's, 3800's) when the controller was at 8.5.151.0. Since the upgrade, they will connect to the 3700's and the 9130's. They will not connect to the 3800's. We receive the following error messages on the WLC when attempting to connect to the 3800's:
*apfMsConnTask_2: Mar 27 07:15:29.650: %APF-4-ASSOCREQ_PROC_FAILED: [PA]apf_80211.c:7871 Failed to process an association request from 40:83:de:xx:xx:xx. WLAN:1, SSID:ewlan. message with invalid supported rate.
*apfMsConnTask_2: Mar 27 07:15:29.650: %APF-3-CHECK_SUPP_RATES_FAILED: [PA]apf_utils.c:223 Could not check supported rates. Invalid Supported Rates from station . Length :0. Mobile MAC: 40:83:de:xx:xx:xx.
We were able to move a 3800 AP to a controller running the older code and the scanner would then connect to the 3800 AP.
I then upgraded to 8.10.151.0 to see if the newer code would fix the issue. It did not. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to get the scanners to connect to the 3802's?
The scanners have the following data rates:
802.11a up to 54 Mbps
80211b/g up to 54 Mbps
802.11n @ 2.4 GHz up to 72.2 Mbps
802.11n @ 5 GHz up to 72 Mbps
For the 802.11a data rates on the WLC, 6 & 9 are disabled, 12 is mandatory and the rest are supported.
For the 802.11b data rates on the WLC, 1-11 are disabled, 12 is mandatory and the rest are supported.

- especially make sure the wireless drivers of the devices are recent (and or the overall firmware if applicable).
