Clients keep roaming and don't stay on clossest access-point

Hi,

We have the following issue that someone might have encountered before. We still haven’t tried everything but if someone knows the resolution it would save us time and is much appreciated.

Setup :

·         Multiple access-points running two SSID's AP1242AG and AP1121AG

·         Cisco 520 PC 24 port PoE switch with an ether-channel to the rest of the network.

·         Other access-points in the building are connected to the same switch

·         Running on G, A radio is disabled

The issue :

The issue is only present in two offices located next to each other. The office has one access-point and the signal strength is Excellent. We connect to the wireless network and get associated to the closest access-point intended for those two offices. After a minute or so we get disconnected and connected to access-points on the other side of the building. The other site is already in use with multiple clients so service shouldn’t be better.

What we already tried :

·         Swapping the access-point

·         Tried different laptops and different wireless cards

·         Checked the cable

·         Checked for interfering frequencies

·         Checking the cable on the power over Ethernet switch

·         When we create a new SSID on that access-point live is good but we don’t want that

·         Empty office when testing, other office in use

What we still have to try :

·         Disable the default QoS setting on the 520 switch

·         Switching the access-point over to another switch-port

·         Check the roaming aggressiveness setting on the wireless card

Anny other options you would like to add is welcome.

Hi,

If the clients moves between the APs then its the clients cal to move based on how the clients are configured... for example few vendors go for best signal strength and few go for distance and etc.. looks like a client driver issue not AP..

Hi,

Thank you for the replay. We solved the problem.

One of the offices above installed an old 2.4Ghz camera system. The ones where you have a black and white CRT screen that is the receiver and the camera’s that have those directional antenna’s. We turned it off an everything worked ok.
