James Simpson

Hi All

I am setting up wireless access point at a remote site. I have the controller at a central location. I will create a template for the new wireless

I will have helper adress configured on the vlan so It can contact a DHCP at another remote site.

What configuration do I need to do to the AP for it get a DHCP address and then go pull any additioanl info from the controller.

Does any body know of a places where I can get notes on this

many thanks

Hi,

The AP needs to konw the WLC management IP address (via static config, DNS or DHCP option 43).

LWAPP/CAPWAP ports must be allowed between the AP-WLC path.

If your AP is on a trunk port (and I think it should be) then it will get an IP from the DHCP configured for the default vlan.

then if the AP knew the IP address of the controller it will try to join.

Hi Thanks for that, but im need to find a configuration template on cisco site

Many thanks

Confused by your term template. If you choose to do option 43, you need to configure the server as such. If you do DNS you need to config the DNS server A record. If you do broadcast then you need to put the ap on the same vlan as the controller managment interface. If you do IP FORWARD UDP then you need to add this command to the router.

The IP helper address only get the AP an IP address. Then you need to do one of the above for the AP to find the WLC.

Make sense?
