Connection Drops

I Have 2 Cisco 1242 Access Point my users complain that their connection drops when they move within the building , as far as i know both AP are placed in such a manner that users connection auotmatically hops between both AP . Can some body Advise me what can i do so that connections dosen't drop for my users

Hi

Assuming you have good coverage levels from the APs throughout the area users are moving around in, the most likely problem is that the channels aren't configured correctly.

Get a copy of netstumbler and see what other APs are in the area and what channels they are using.

Only channels 1,6,11 don't interfere with each other, so configure on AP on 1 for example, and the other on 6. This should allow clients to cleanly hop between them.

If other APs (maybe other companies in your area or building) are using these channels (or channels close to them) try to switch to channels away from the ones they are using.

The most important thing is to ensure your two APs (that should be the strongest signals in your office) are on different, non-overlapping channels.
