CW9800M Controller Rack Mounting

Hello All. Have a CW9800M Wireless Controller to mount in a data center rack. It comes with ears for a 2-post telco rack. The Hardware Installation manual indicates a 4-post rack mounting kit is available but does not show a part number. Have tried numerous avenues through Cisco's gauntlet; they finally gave up and said I should ask my VAR. Not super helpful. Has anyone been successful at acquiring the mythical 4-post mounting kit? Have a part number?

That is likely not sold separately, it is intended to be part of a single kit included with the device.

One option is to visit https://ccrc.cisco.com/ccwr/ and use your controller's serial number to verify if this part is included as a minor item.

Another option is to consult your Cisco sales representative; as previously suggested, that would be the most reliable choice.

I am not a Cisco employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Cisco, best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

I'm not sure, maybe it's this one.

That appears to be for an ASR1001 router which is a different chassis, different mounting holes, etc.

I can't find any reference to a kit other than to use a shelf for support.

Step 1

(Optional) Install a shelf in the rack to support the . If you use a shelf, it helps support the chassis while you secure it to the rack.

Note

If you are using a shelf, place the chassis on the shelf and slightly raise the front of the chassis to align the mounting bracket holes with the rack post holes while allowing the bottom of the chassis to rest on the shelf.

Could look at a support like these, I use in my home rack.

Hi @tyrebyter,

according to the 'Checking the Shipping Container Contents' section of the Cisco Catalyst CW9800M Wireless Controller Hardware Installation Guide, the package includes front and rear chassis rack-mount brackets with the respective screws.

This is the intended hardware for the CW9800M’s documented four-post mounting arrangement and referred to in the 'Installing the Controller' chapter of the installation guide. The question remains whether the included bracket arrangement fits your particular rack depth. If not, then shelf installation could be an alternative.

HTH!

The installation guide does indeed suggest that the rails are included, but the controller we acquired new, unopened, from a certified source did not have the rear rails. OK. Things happen. Maybe it was packed on a Friday. We need to buy the rail kit. I know of no Cisco 1U device made in the last 25 years that can appropriately support itself horizontally with just the front mounting ears, but for the love of all that is holy, I just need a part number. Why is that so hard for Cisco?
