does dual-band AP basically equal to two APs from client's perspective?

Hi,

I have a dual-band (2.4 / 5 GHz) AP deployed. Each band has its own SSID assigned. My question is:

  • From the client's perspective, how many BSS exist? Do we have two AP here, one for 2.4GHz and another for 5GHz?
  • If the signal strength is different between the two bands, would roaming occur between 2.4G and 5G even there is only one AP when the wireless client moving around?
  • Is it supported that we configure the same SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

Thank you!

  • No It just one AP that support dual band. You give the option just for conecctign with 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz. Its depend on the compatbility of the wifi card on your computer.
  • Roammin refers changin wifi conextion from one ap to another. This is just one AP. So theres no roaming. Just a los of conecction forced by the user to connect to another band.
  • Yes its supported and its the best pratice. Thay way you give the oportunity to your clients that have more modern wifi cards to get a more fast connection.
