Hello,

I'm working with a WLC 5520 v8.10.190.0. APs are C9130AXI-A mode flexconnect. APs are configured in the same AP group. The 2.4 GHz radio is disabled and the dual 5 GHz Radio Slot 2 is disabled in the majority of the APs. I left 1 single Radio Slot 2 in monitor mode. Furthermore, we are using a RF profile with a txpower max: 15 dBm and min: 9 dBm as well as 40MHz channels, as shown in the table below:

AP Name Radio Slot Status Channel TxPower
AP001  Radio Slot 1 Enable (112,108)*  *3/7 ( 9 dBm) [15/12/9/6/3/0/-1/5]
AP001  Radio Slot 2 Disable 161*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]
AP002  Radio Slot 1 Enable (44,48)*    *1/4 ( 7 dBm) [7/4/1/-1/3/0/-1/5]
AP002  Radio Slot 2 Disable 104*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]
AP003  Radio Slot 1 Enable (36,40)*    *1/4 ( 8 dBm) [8/5/2/-1/3/0/-1/5]
AP003  Radio Slot 2 Disable 56*         *8/8 ( 1 dBm) [22/19/16/13/10/7/4/1]
AP004  Radio Slot 1 Enable (161,157)*  *6/8 (11 dBm) [26/23/20/17/14/11/8/5]
AP004  Radio Slot 2 Disable 161*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]
AP005  Radio Slot 1 Enable (64,60)*    *2/6 (11 dBm) [14/11/8/5/2/-1/8/5]
AP005  Radio Slot 2 Disable 48*         *7/7 (-4 dBm) [14/11/8/5/2/-1/-4/2]
AP006  Radio Slot 1 Enable (132,136)*  *3/7 ( 9 dBm) [15/12/9/6/3/0/-1/5]
AP006  Radio Slot 2 Disable 140*        *8/8 ( 0 dBm) [21/18/15/12/9/6/3/0]
AP007  Radio Slot 1 Enable (132,136)*  *4/8 ( 9 dBm) [18/15/12/9/6/3/0/-3]
AP007  Radio Slot 1 Enable (Monitor)   *8/8 ( 1 dBm) [22/19/16/13/10/7/4/1]
AP008  Radio Slot 1 Enable (56,52)*    *2/6 (11 dBm) [14/11/8/5/2/-1/-1/5]
AP008  Radio Slot 2 Disable 161*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]
AP009  Radio Slot 1 Enable (100,104)*  *3/7 ( 9 dBm) [15/12/9/6/3/0/-1/5]
AP009  Radio Slot 2 Disable 40*         *8/8 (-4 dBm) [15/12/9/6/3/0/-3/-4]
AP010  Radio Slot 1 Enable (44,48)*    *1/4 ( 7 dBm) [7/4/1/-1/14/11/8/5]
AP010  Radio Slot 2 Disable 161*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]
AP011  Radio Slot 1 Enable (157,161)*  *6/8 (11 dBm) [26/23/20/17/14/11/8/5]
AP011  Radio Slot 2 Disable 157*        *8/8 ( 2 dBm) [23/20/17/14/11/8/5/2]

What I understand of the dual 5 GHz antennas is that Radio Slot 1 if the normal antenna and the Radio Slot 2 is the one used for to do a micro cel used in high density deployments.

However, i don't understand why in some cases the active Radio Slot 1 has a maximum power of 8 or 7 dBm  whereas the disabled Radio Slot 2 seems to have a maximum of 23 dBm, and some times is the other way around. The TxPower max levels are not consistent on all other Radio Slot 1 and Radio Slot 2 on other floors either. How can I make sure which is the Radio Slot that I need to disable ? How can I make sure that the radios are going to work between the values configured on the RF Profile ?

Thanks,

Hello

Maximum transmit power depends of 802.11h TPC.

Regulatory domains (at least FCC and ETSI) have fixed maximum power per band. So depending the channel affected to the radio then the max power is set differently :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-3/b_RRM_White_Paper/tpc.html#id_15328

23dBm is the maximum for some channels.

FRA on 9130AXI can be used as dual (2.4Ghz/5Ghz macro/macro -> 5Ghz macro/micro) or tri (2.4Ghz/5Ghz macro/macro -> 2.4Ghz/5Ghz/5Ghz macro/macro/macro)

To my understanding, in tri mode, 5Ghz 8 spatial streams are splitted in two pair of 4 SS on the same radio  but two channels.

I may be wrong but as we can see two channels affected on the same radio slot 1, I think that you split the 5GHz in two set of spatial steams on two channels.
