Hello!
I have received a new WLC2504 for my lab, which is nice....
What's not so nice is that I get a mysterious error message on the console. It appeared when the wizard started at first boot and it apperars at every startup since.
I have gone through the wizard twice and reset to factory defaults in between but the error message persists. It looks like this :
(Cisco Controller)
Enter User Name (or 'Recover-Config' this one-time only to reset configuration to factory defaults)
User: Failed to write I2C device: Input/output error
[i2c_wr_to_wdt_timer_reg]Got error -1 during tx.
User:
Is this unit ready for RMA/DOA or can I somehow force it into normal behaviour..?.. The GUI appears to be working normally.
Best Regards

I would suggest talked to TAC & RMA if that is their view on this.
Normally you should not get any errors like this on console, if it is working properly

It seems like I've heard more about 2500 failures in the last 4 weeks then I have in the last 2 years ..

Reboot the WLC and see if everything stays and comes back fine. I would open a TAC case however and RMA the unit if possible.

Hi Murilo
This issues don't have a impact.
But you can open case with Cisco TAC and make a RMA for replace hardware.
In my case replace the hardware.in two day.

Hi Murilo,
so is the TAC advice to RMA the device?

Did you find a resolve to this issue. I also received a brand new wlc 2504 today and I keep seeing this notice after a reboot.

I just had the same issue today and spoke with Cisco and they said "We will have to RMA this for you. We are aware of this issue".

My team also have the same issue, it showing the message on the console,
I want to know what problem it could create with this.

This message is seen specifically on a recent hardware rev of the 2504 controllers. It is cosmetic and does not affect operation in any way. TAC does not recommend RMA for this problem (as there is no guarantee that the replacement unit will not also show the same message.)
We plan to release a new FUS upgrade which will fix this problem - hopefully within the next month or two. If you want the FUS fix sooner, open a TAC case and reference the following bug:
CSCuu46671 PIC image upgrade vis FUS
For further details, see the bug.
