explain output command show ap channel

hi all,

I configured all RF profile with 40Mhz, but many ap stayed at 20Mhz.

I checked and tried the command show ap channel 

The output : 

Slot Id ..................................... 0
802.11b/g Current Channel ..................... 6*
Allowed Channel List........................... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,
........................... 13
Slot Id ..................................... 1
802.11a Current Channel ....................... 44* (20MHz) / Cap 40MHz
Allowed Channel List........................... 36,40,44,48,52,56,60,64,100,
........................... 104,108,112,116,132,136,140

On result 802.11a Current Channel, i have 44* (20MHz) / Cap 40MHz

Could someone explain me this result ?

the AP reserves a primary channel, here 44* (20MHz)

and is:  Cap(able) 40MHz

the asterix behind 44, means you have Dynamic Channel Assigment enabled

as a result it will dynamically assign a second channel WHEN a client requests 40MHz bandwith

This is NOT necessary two adjacent channels, it could be any from the allowed channels.

=> start a large file transfer on a 40MHz capable client and re-issue the same command .
