Guest Wireless with 1602i Access Points

Is there any reason why we'd need to use a controller to provide guest wireless from a 1602?  We currently have 1142 and had 1130's before and neither required a controller for guest access.  I've setup a few other model Cisco wireless access points and this is the first I'm hearing that a controller would be required for this functionality.  Nothing fancy required w/ respect to the guest network (accepting agreement, using guest username/passwords, etc), just broadcasting a separate SSID for visitors and hanging that traffic off an interface on the firewall and blocking access internally.  I'd imagine a controller would be overkill for 3 - 4 access points.

No a controller is not necessar for what you are looking to do.

Thanks.  That's what I thought based on past experience.  Guess the sales team got a little ahead of themselves when they were making recommendations.

Just make sure you buy AP that start with AIR-SAP1602. SAP is the new prefix for Standalone where CAP is for controller based.
