Hello

Can HA be configured on Cisco 5508controllers with 12 licenses each. Is there a minimum license requirement?

Product Version.................................. 7.4.121.0

Bootloader Version............................... 1.0.1

Field Recovery Image Version..................... 6.0.182.0

Here you go.

Q.

I already have a spare controller. Can I convert that controller to the standby controller?

A. Yes. Customers need to upgrade their controller software to Release 7.3. They can then convert the spare to a standby controller using the command-line interface or GUI.

It is important to note that on the Cisco 5508, the controller needs to have at least 50 access point licenses in order to be able to convert the controller to the standby controller for the wireless LAN.

Thanks,

Scott

Just adding to scott:

if you have 2 wlc with each 12 ap licence then you can configure AP failover:

Local on AP

Wireless > Access Points > All APs > Select AP > High Availability Configuration

or

Global

WIRELESS >Global Configuration

check here:

For true redundancy, you either can get another WLC with the same # of access point licenses, but if you have more than 50 AP's, then just either look at the cost for an HA sku wlc compared to the cost of adding licenses to get to 50 AP.

Scott

If you have less than 12 AP's, just follow what Sandeep posted and assign the primary and secondary WLC's to each AP.

No specific hardware if you have one with 50 licneses... but it might be cheaper to get an HA sku WLC.

just to add:

You either need the  standby controller (either WLC HA sku controller or a WLC5508 with 50 AP license or more) to run HA AP SSO.

Primary controller : With enough license (Example:100 AP license)

Secondary or standby Controller:  HA-SKU license or a WLC5508 with 50 AP license

Hope this is more clear.

Make sure you are running the latest FUS image... seem's like you are not by looking at this:

Bootloader Version............................... 1.0.1

Field Recovery Image Version..................... 6.0.182.0

Upgrade to FUS 1.9.0.0.. here is the release notes:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_OL-31390-01.pdf

Download the FUS here.... the process will take around 35-45 minutes in which you will not be able to acess the WLC.  You should console into the WLC to see the progress of the upgrade.

Thank you for the reply.

I new of the High availability option on the AP's. Due to the push to use HA, I was not sure if the

controllers had another failover option

Is there a specific HA license that has to be purchased or is HA automatically available if the minimum License
