My purchaser did not scan the serial numbers for about 150 1200 AP's that have already been installed. We need to renew the SmartNet contracts. Is there anyway I can obtain serial number information without having to climb a ladder 150 times?

Unfortunately there is no way to get the serial number remotely. The only way is to get it off the access point's chasis.

The serial number is attainable through the web and cli interface on both IOS and VxWorks AP's.

On IOS it's easiest to telnet in and sh ver. The serial number will be on the second page of the output.

In VxWorks, the serial number is visible on the access point home page in both the web and cli interface.
