How do I enable WEP encryption?

ArdjanCisco

I'm trying to enable WEP encryption on my 871W. I can only use WEP beacause my Palm Tungsten C doesn't understand WPA.

Currently, I'm using these two commends for WEP:

  encryption key 1 size 128bit 7 824xxxxx063 transmit-key

  encryption mode wep mandatory

But the WLAN works without encryption, everyone can log on. (I do a 'int do0 shutdown' every time after I read mail on my Palm).

Can someone point me in the right direction for configuring simple WEP encryption?

Later on I will additionally use ACLs for checking the MAC-adresses of the WLAN-clients...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ardjan

I think the problem is in:

"encryption key 1 size 128bit 7 824A<.....>0063 transmit-key"

You have to use:

"encryption vlan 30 key 1 size 128bit 7 824A<.....>0063 transmit-key"

Please, check that and let us know. Hope this helps

Here you are.

Hi Ardjan

Just tried it: didn't work.

For quick testing, I use the PalmOS program 'NetChaser', and a sample screenshot looks like http://www.bitsnbolts.com/images/NetChaser_320_2.gif I don't see the lock appear when trying this here... :-(

I found the solution:

encryption vlan 30 key 1 size 128bit 7 <....> transmit-key

encryption vlan 30 mode wep mandatory

So, I had to use the vlan in both lines... :-)

Thanx for all help!
