How do I name APs on a 9800 controller from the CLI?

Staging a large number of APs, would like for my Python script to be able to bulk name APs ahead of time similar to how the Python script assigns tags. I found the command:

ap specific-config <mac> hostname <hostname>

but that didn't seem to work. Has anyone figured this out?

test#ap name <existingname > name <newname>

I'd like to point out that the 9800 still lacks feature parity with the AireOS WLC in that you cannot rename an AP from the CLI with only its ethernet MAC address - on AireOS this is possible.

Being able to rename an AP using only its MAC address from either the CLI or from an API would be great but I don't think it's possible right now.
