First you need to download the autonomous software. You will need to have a valid support contract to download or else you will not be able to convert your AP.  If you don't have a support contract, then ask the vendor whom you purchased the equipment and see if they can provide that to you.

Here is a YouTube video on the conversion process

You can search for "lightweight to autonomous conversion" and you will find other links on how to perform this conversions.

umm, so what you have is an air-cap1602e-e-k9 and what you want is an air-sap1602e-e-k9..

Unless someone already changed it from sap to cap and you want to go back..

an AIR-SAP1602E is autonomous out of the box.

hi david

i have AIR-SAP1602E-E-K9 which is standalone right.

On the model you will see the following:

SAP = Standalone (Autonomous)

CAP = CAPWAP (Lightweight)

LAP = Lightweight

hi scott

i want to convert AIR-SAP1602E-E-K9 to Lightweight (Controller Based)

thanks,

MG

You need to download the lightweight image from CCO download section. You need to have a valid support contract in order to do so or else you will not be able to convert that AP. As far as converting, search on Google 'autonomous to lightweight conversion' and you will find a bunch of links including some YouTube videos on how to do this.

You should be able to convert it. The difficulty will be in getting the autonomous code. I've taken a 1602 the opposite direction and only had to use the standard archive command just like what would be used on the average switch to convert from autonomous to capwap. Unfortunately, I don't have any specific instructions on going from capwap to autonomous for the 1600 series ap's.
