Hi all,
I understand that Cisco have at long last provided a facility to separate HTTP web authentication from HTTPS WLC management on WLC code 7.2.x for the new 5500 series WLCs.
My question is does anyone know if Cisco intend to provide the same much needed functionality on the 4400 series WLCs that are running 7.0.x code? I was looking through the release notes for v7.0.235.3 code and that did not seem to mention this functionality. I know we can get around the problem by purchasing an SSL certificate so that guest users with web authentication do not have to see the same security warning each time they log in but the idea to separate the HTTP web authentication from HTTPS WLC management seems so much simpler.

The command to disable https for webauth is only available for the 5508's, 2540, 7500, WiSM2.

Thanks, Scott - I was aware that Cisco do not currently provide this functionality on the 4400 series WLCs. I was just wondering out aloud (and hoping that perhaps someone with inside knowledge from Cisco might respond!) whether Cisco intended to provide the same functionality on the 4400 series WLCs which must have a much larger install base than the newer 5508s.

From what was mentioned at Networkers early this year, the answer is no. There was no plan on supporting this on the older WLC's. You may want to reach out to your Cisco rep if you want something from Cisco.

OK - thanks for that info, Scott. I'll just have to go down the SSL cert route in that case.

I still prefer using an ssl cert than not using it. I guess it's just how I think. I have tested it in a lab environment, but I still recommend ssl certs to my clients.

For Internal webauth - HTTP & HTTPs redirection is possible on 7.0 & 7.2 code on WLC. See the difference below.
On 7.0 code both webauth redirection & wlc management were global, Disabling http management disables http webauth redirection, same for https as well. This behavior is changed in 7.2.
On 7.2 code, You can have both HTTP & HTTPs management enabled and configure either HTTP or HTTPs redirection. use the below command to control http or https redirection.
(Cisco Controller) >config network web-auth secureweb enable/disable
Enable - Enables https for web-auth redirection.
Disable - Enables http for web-auth redirection.
