How to give higher priority to lan interface than wifi

Hi,

The wifi PCs are Windows XP or 2000, and they are using a wifi adapter or Centrino directly. But when they arrive at their desk, they plug their pc into a docking bay with an Ethernet Connection : is it possible to keep wifi adapter connected, but to give it less priority than the ethernet adapter, in order to avoid the user to de-associate manually ?

Because both connections will be potentially in the same subnet.

Thanks for the help.

Patrice

Hi

You can do this:

Go to network connections/wireless interface properties..

Go to TCP/IP properties, then advanced, then clear 'Automatic metric'... Change the metric to something high (such as 100)... then ok your way out.

Go to a command prompt when you have both interfaces connected, and type 'route print'..

You should have routes via each interface, the metric on the right should show that the Ethernet is prioritised...

Hope this helps...
