hello.

im planning on implementing indoor location tracking using LWAPs for triangulation and WCS as the software for configuration in addition to a WLC. want to check if this is a possible implementation. thank you. =D

Hi Angeline,

For Indoor location tracking you will need at least WCS Location (instead of WCS Base)you may even want to purchase a Wireless Location Appliance, have a look;

Cisco WCS is available in two options:

Cisco WCS Base-This option provides centralized management for Cisco Aironet lightweight access points and Cisco wireless LAN controllers. This includes RF management, mobility management, a centralized policy engine for security and quality of service (QoS) configuration, intrusion prevention system (including rogue access points), planning and design tools, alarm collection, reporting tools, and other award-winning wireless LAN management features.

Cisco WCS Location-This option includes all Cisco WCS Base features plus the ability to track a single Wi-Fi device on demand via high-accuracy location tracking or expand location capabilities by adding a Cisco Wireless Location Appliance to simultaneously track up to 2500 Wi-Fi devices. This enables IT staff to accurately track mobile devices (such as wireless clients) and security threats (such as rogue access points) to within a few meters.

Here is some more info for Indoor Location tracking;

Indoor Location Tracking

Cisco provides a variety of options for efficiently tracking wireless devices, including Wi-Fi enabled laptops, PDAs, voice handsets, and mobile assets equipped with 802.11 transceivers. Cisco WCS Base can determine which access point a wireless device is associated with, giving IT managers a general proximity of where wireless devices are situated. Environments that require more granular location services can implement an optional version of Cisco WCS, called Cisco WCS Location, that uses Cisco's patent pending "RF fingerprinting" technology. This technology compares real-time client RSSI information to known RF building characteristics, making Cisco the only WLAN infrastructure with the ability to accurately locate a wireless device to within a few meters. Cisco WCS Location supports "on demand" lookups of the most recent location information for a single Wi-Fi device or rogue device. In addition, Cisco WCS Location can be deployed in conjunction with the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance to simultaneously track thousands of wireless clients in real-time.

With these advanced location tracking capabilities, the Cisco Unified Wireless Network is an ideal platform for helping to enable key business applications that take advantage of wireless mobility, such as asset tracking, inventory management, and enhanced 911 (e911) services for voice. By incorporating indoor location tracking into the wireless LAN infrastructure itself, Cisco reduces the complexities of wireless LAN deployment and minimizes total cost of ownership.

Hope this helps!
