Issues with WLAN VLAN

Hello, I deployed an Aironet 1832i AP with Mobility Express, updated the firmware to the latest 8.10.112.0 and I am struggling with making a WLAN use VLAN 4 (Changing "Native VLAN ID" to 4).  The problem is the configuration doesn't save (the value reverts back to 1).

The AP is connected via Ethernet to the switch on a port that is configured as a trunk (for VLANs 1 and 4).

I tried setting the "Use VLAN Tagging" as true, and changing the VLAN ID there to 4 (the DHCP scope field is grayed out as "None"), but for some reason, this changes the native VLAN ID on all WLANs to 4 (not sure why).

Bottomline, I haven't been able to make this work. Any advice on what's missing?

I am coming from using an Engenius AP, where this process was very simple, just assigning the VLAN i wanted to the WLAN and that's it.

Thanks!

Can you show some more detail. For Cisco wireless, the AP’s are connected to an untagged interface. This can be an access port or a trunk port with native vlan x. So the ap management is always untagged and then for client subnets, they are always tagged. You have to create the vlan first either through the GUI or the cli and then you can apply the wlan to vlan mapping. This configuration is only done on the master mobility express ap. Try to change the configuration on the cli and see if that takes or open a TAC case which you can get help right away if you have been struggling on this for a while. You can also try different code versions just to make sure it isn’t the issue with the code. That is easier to isolate because it takes only a few minutes to test.

Thanks Scott,

When you say "You have to create the vlan first either through the GUI", how is that done using the web interface?  I thought this was only configured under "WLAN Settings -> VLAN and Security" tab only. Is there any other place to configure VLAN Settings ?

Not sure if this is misconfiguration, but in parallel to that, this is also happening (https://community.cisco.com/t5/wireless-and-mobility/mobility-express-aps-points-keep-going-offline-then-online/m-p/3829680#M107877). The AP seems to be restarting and dropping all connections for seconds at a time.

I took this AP out of service while I get this sorted out.

My bad, for ME you need to add the vlan info from the wlan configuration section. Typically you tag the vlan as native vlan is for the ap management.

If your AP is rebooting since you took it offline, I’m assuming it is capable of being a master controller?
