 Hi All,

I've an 3802I AP's which is configured properly & working & now i'm decommissioning the AP.

I've excuted below command from the controller

clear ap-config <ap-name>.

My question is will that AP will register back to the WLC? if below parameters are not set

1. AP Ip address not in same subnet with WLC.

2. Option 43 is not configured.

3. DNS entry for the WLC Name is not set.

Please help me with the answer. I think AP will not join the Controller as all the config will be deleted & above 3 parameters are not set.

thanks regards

Yes it will not join WLC, if

1. you delete the complete config from AP

2. There should be no method configured for registartion/join process (as you mentioned three steps)

yes i deleted all the config of the AP from WLC and all the 3 discovery methods are not set.

Assumption:
Does AP NVRAM stores the entry of last WLC's learned & will it help the AP to join the WLC ?

You also need to remove the config from NVRAM as NVRAM saves the config of the access point.

so does that means Not deleting the config from AP NVRAM, will help the same AP to join back to the registered WLC, even after clearing the config initially.

old AP config was stored in NVRAM. But I think new AP(3800) dont store anymore in NVRAM(Not 100% sure about it, you can manually check).

Hi

In this situation, I believe it will not be able to join.

does AP NVRAM stores any entry for the last learned WLC details, which might help AP to register back to same WLC?

Hi Amey,

Once you delete AP configuration , then you won't be able to connect it to WLC.
