MCS display on Cisco WLC Prime

Hi,

wlc - 5508 v8.1

prime -3.0

testing throughput for 802.11ac i noticed that htc phone has max speed 105 MBps. same htc has 170 Mbps using 802.11ac from Dlink, Unify, Tp-link.

how can i check what msc level is used in for device?

how can i check number of spatial stream?

can i troubleshoot throughput issues?

thank you.

Post the complete output to the WLC CLI command of "sh client detail <HTC MAC address>".

What is the exact model of HTC & firmware version running?

phone: htc one m7 dual sim

Here it is.

This is telling me only 1 Spatial Stream.

for m7 data rate i should have 48 Mbps, but I have 90 DL, 90 UL, during above show command display.

Can i check what channel bandwidth is used for that client?

Is m7 data rate for DL or UL?

thanks

Is m7 data rate for DL or UL?

Either.  Smartphones & tablets don't have CPU and battery power to do both upload and download.

phones have small antenna gains so UL radio conditions will be worser then in DL.

SO, show client details output displays current rate in DL or UL?

for example, i have connection to 2702 AP.

Dl speed is 65 mb, UL is 135mb.

for this device we have m7 ss1.

we can determine DL and UL speed disbalances by showing data rate in DL and Ul. So, show client details show DL or UL?

why i have DL and UL disbalances?

Dl speed is 65 mb, UL is 135mb.

Ok, here's the thing, the output shows the smartphone negotiating to MCS 6 (SS of 1) so this means up to 135 Mbps.

The question that needs to be answer is this:  Can this wireless client really process 135 Mbps?

What the software can say the phone "can" negotiate and what the actual speed achievable are two different things.

Radio Signal Strength Indicator............ -68 dBm
Signal to Noise Ratio...................... 23 dB

Hmmmm ... Good signal but SNR is not good.

Good handy chart to use; by Keith Parsons at WLANPros

 http://www.wlanpros.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/MCS-Index-802.11n-and-802.11ac.pdf

Also note :what is the APs transmit power set to?  The other tested APs ( Dlink, Unify, Tp-link). May be transmitting at a higher transmit power or using a different chanel than the model of AP you have  2702i < internal antenna?

Thus the  lower SNR for the environment and rates shifting  based on the RF conditions around the 2702i AP using internal antennas opposed to external as I assume the other APs use external higher gain antennas?

Also look at this chart -comparing SNR to MCS from Andrew Von Nagy

http://www.wlanpros.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Revolution-Wi-FI-MCS-to-SNR-Single-Page.pdf

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I saw 160 Mbps with Htc One m7 connected to Dlink and TP-link. So, this phone can process 160 Mbps.

Output TX power on Dlik, TP-link was 21 dBm.

I tested speed with iperf and speedtest, the difference is not so big about several Mbps.

cisco configuration:

I set Power Level Assignment on WLC: on Demand (Max Power 21 dBm)

All APs work on different channels. I

How can I check UL current rate for connected client?

we can determine DL and UL speed disbalances by showing data rate in DL and Ul. So, show client details show DL or UL?

MCS 6 or MCS 7 ... won't make any difference.  Wireless clients, like smartphones or tablets do not have CPU & battery capacity, to push that speed.   Smartphones still come with one antenna.  Speedtest will show that they can go that fast but speedtest is a "low intensity" test.

HTC One is stated on the spec sheet as "802.11 a/b/g/n/ac".  How's 802.11ac possible if there's only one antenna?
