hi All,
By default, 802/11a/n is set for backhaul communication.
Does that mean that if most of my clients are on 5ghz, Mesh network is not a preferred design to go?
Reason being:- client communication on a/n radio might disturb the traffic of the whole cell and of all the MAPs that connect to the network through that MAP.
Please advise

Hi,
There are two slots for the backhaul radio. You can enable either one or both slots for client access.
Look into this:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/technology/mesh/7.0/design/guide/MeshAP_70.html#wp1874986
So if you have any concern with the performance you can enable one slot only for clients.

Amjad,
There is only one type of mesh that has two slots and it is the following:
AP1524 Serial Backhaul (AIR-LAP1524SB-X-K9) Functionality
The other model mesh AP's like the 1550's and the others, only have one slot and therefore only one 5ghz radio.
I never allow client access on the 5ghz, but that's my opinion. Yes it will reduce the throughout on the backhaul if you do have a lot of devices associating to the 5ghz backhaul.

Thank you Scott for the info.
I never tried this feature. The link I provided above mentions that it is available on 1522 and 1532AC APs as well.

Oh. It seems I am overall mistaken. The document says the universal client access is feature is available on the 1522 APs, not the dual 5 GHz radio feature.
Thanks a lot Scott for the explanation and bringing that to my attention. :)

No problem... this was the confusing part, because others were thinking that they can have multiple channels on the backhaul, which isn't true today. Single channel for the backhaul on a given RAP.
Thanks,
Scott

And the 1524SB end of sale (in June) was announced. The 1522 went end of sale over a year ago.
