Hello,
I have an issue with an existing WLAN that has 17 AP's on a 5508. When I plug in my 1142 it boots up, but I do not see any attempts by the AP to join the 5508. It receives an IP and then should check for my DNS entries that would point the AP to the controller. The 1142 is on the same vlan as other AP's that work.
I'm running 8.0.121.0 on the 5508. It is licensed for 25 devices.
What should I look for? Should I post my console info from the 1142 when it boots?
Thanks!

I know why. The AP is running autonomous IOS.
In order for the AP to join the controller, download the CAPWAP or controller-based IOS and then load the IOS into the AP. Make sure the AP boots the controller-based IOS.
This should help. Any more issues, feel free to post.
01-29-2016 03:05 PM
Alrighty then. I'll give it a try and report back.
Thank you.
01-29-2016 03:20 PM
Where can I get the capwap image? Is it possible to get it from my controller? I'm not authorized to get it through the CCO site.
Thanks!
01-29-2016 03:36 PM
I'm not authorized to get it through the CCO site.
A TAC agent told me a few times that you don't need a "special" Service Contract to download CAPWAP/controller-based IOS. Just create an account and download.
If not, then raise a TAC Case (use the WLC S/N as a base) and a TAC agent will publish the CAPWAP/controller-based IOS of your choice.
