Open Authencation w/ or w/o MAC Assoc?

Our wireless voice network currently uses 4 1231 AP's and 1 1100, and were setup by a consultant company. They instructed us that when a new 7920 phone is put into service that the MAC needs to be added to the list in Adv. Security. I have been doing this but discovered that one of the AP's has no MACs listed and the phones still work. I figured out that in the SSID Manager UI there is the option for Open Authentaction with MAC Association, but this is not selected (Open Auth. w/ NO ADDITION is selected).

Is there any reason/advantage to have Auth w/ MAC activated? The phones are secured with a WEP key, and these APs are only used for voice. I'm just not sure which way is best for quality.

The power transition to the UPS can cause a problem where the Access Points are not pingable and do not broadcast their MAC addresses. Resetting the access points will fix this problem
