Powering up AP 3800 without enabled CDP

We have a problem to power up the radios of an 3800 AP from a 2960X switch when the CDP is turned off. I tried to statically configure the power consumption but without any success.

Do somebody have the same problem or has a explanation?

Cisco APs don't need CDP to get power from a switch.

Have you got other POE devices on the switch?

Have you tried a different cable?

Which part number of 2960-X switch do you have?  Some of them have smaller power supplies and might not have the power output needed to turn on all of the radios. This WAP needs 802.3at power for full operation.

Then the CDP is enabled the AP is fully powered with 802.3at.

The problem comes when I disable CDP.

Seems like you found your answer.  There has been issues in the past with vendor AP's connecting to other vendor switches for example and PoE negotiations was broken because of CDP/LLDP issues. This was a big issue also with Cisco AP's and Meraki switches also.  Take a look at the output from the AP console when powering up the AP with and without CDP and you should seee something there about power.

If this is still an issue, open a TAC case as it also might be due to the 3800's in general.  I currently have a 3802 on a Meraki with CDP/LLDP enabled.

I've tried on 2960X and 2960S with different cables with the same result.
