Priorize VMware BLAST Extreme traffic

Hi all

I run a WLC 5520 running on 8.2.151.0.

We use VDI and currently evaluate VMware BLAST Extreme as the transmission protocol, instead of PCoIP.

For PCoIP I've configured an AVC profile which works really nice. I couldn't find VMware BLAST Extreme in the list of available protocols, but maybe I've overlooked it. It's running on Port TCP/443 by default and I prefer not to change this.

Do you know if/how this is possible?

Hello,

 The problem is that this protocol uses 443 port by default. 443 port is a well know port and is already designated to HTTS.

 What you could do is create a new profile and on 'Application Group' select 'internet-privacy' , then, under 'Application-name' you can select 'ssl'.

 The problem is, by doing this, you will drop/allow/mark any traffic related to 443 port, not only Blast.

Thanks for your reply. I completely forgot this question, but now it popped up again, as the Horizon View UWP Windows 10 app sets Blast Extreme as default :(

It seems Blast Extreme uses tcp and udp 8443. 

I think there is no way to create a custom AVC application rule that works port based, right?

That's right. You can't create a custom application in WLC AVC. We have to wait Cisco WLC NBAR engine to come up with signature to detect it.

As you know WLC AVC is one part of end to end QoS. You need to make sure your traffic is get prioratize in your switch network as well.

The switching network has plenty of bandwidth in my case, but the wireless is shared by many.
I had really good results with PCoIP prioritizing in AVC and was hoping to do something similar with Blast Extreme, which is "sadly" becoming the default for VMware.
