Problem adding a new 2600 Aironet AP...

Hi guys

I am having problems adding a new 2600 Aironet AP to my existing wireless infrastructure.  We have a 2504 Wireless Controller with 12 Aironet 2600 AP's  It's been a while since I added an access point, but I know when when previously done it was a case of just plugging in the new AP, then firmware and settings are downloaded to the new AP and its good to go (except for maybe a few settings changes/rename).

However, with this latest brand new AP (the same model as the others - 26021-E-K9) it comes on and gets a solid green light.  I've let it for hours and nothing!  I can see the AP showing up in DHCP so its getting a network address, but there is no sign of it in the logs on the 2504 controller.

I've been able to connect to the AP's management console via its IP address (which is something I can't do on the other APs) and I can see that it is running the same firmware version as the others - 15.2(2)JA .  The controller is running 7.3.112.0 (and I can't update that, as my service agreement expired!

I'm actually wondering if I have a faulty AP, as this has never been a problem before!

Any advice/suggestions would be very much appreciated!

First off, place the AP on the same subnet as the WLC management interface. If you still have issues, console into the AP and power up the unit. Attach the output to your post so we can see what is happening.

Hi Scott

Thanks very much for the reply!

I've connected the console cable, and connected a Putty session then rebooted the AP.  The following comes up - as you'll see, it seems to have stopped after quoting the IP address.  Been like this for >5 mins.

Hope this helps, and thanks again!

The AP image is autonomous not lightweight.

k9w7 is autonomous

k9w8 is lightweight

If you want this ap to join, you need to convert it to lightweight, but you will need to download the image.

To convert, you can follow this link:

Scott is 100% correct!

Thanks guys!  Yes, absolutely right!  I have noticed that my supplier sent the wrong unit!!  I have ended up with a "SAP" rather than "CAP" model!

Just wanted to add that the link Scott very kindly sent unfortunately wasn't much help to me (but only probably because of my limited knowledge of Cisco platform!).  However - this video completely did the trick for me.  I followed this guide and had the AP flashed with LW firmware in no time!

Well done Tim.

Hi  there,

I would suggest before you get to deep into this issue, have a look at the compatibility matrix on the link below, just to be sure.
