Problem with WLC5508

Hello friends
I currently have 2 WLC 5508 that work active / active in our network. the problem is that in the first I have no licenses installed and the second has 62 licenses, the first WLC despite not having licenses (evaluation expires) recognizes the 62 AP and are running but when we turn off this driver and put the second running it recognizes all the AP but these appear with the SSID down, does anyone have any idea of why or how to solve this problem?

best regards

Hi,

The issue is on your WLC2 they are all inactive. Try clicking on the 'base-ap-count' and within there set the priority and click apply. This should prompt you to accept an EULA and then they will be active. What code are you running?

Just re-reading other posts on this and it may be you'll need a TAC case to assist with activating these licenses.

One option of the above does not work is to try activating your Evaluaton licenses (select it, enter low priorty and then apply to accept the EULA). Then you may see at lease the evaluation is active but perhaps not the base 62 licenses. If you are unable to activate those then, a TAC case may be required.

hi i use this version 8.3.122.0, i

On CLI could you post the ouput from the following on WLC2:

show sysinfo
show license capacity
show license all
show license in-use

It is likely you may need to log a TAC case to get a license file that re-applies as permanent/medium priority if my above fix does not work.

Thanks,

yes of course!!

what I need to open a cisco tac ?? and again thank you so much for the collaboration

Ok it could be your FUS which is written here on your sysinfo output:

Field Recovery Image Version..................... 6.0.182.0

Do you have access to downloads for the WLC? If so, please update to the latest FUS (1.9.0)

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282600534&softwareid=284364857&release=1.9.0.0&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Please check the release notes too:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_OL-31390-01.html#pgfId-43732

Critical thing to note is there will be an outage to the WLC for 30 - 45 minutes normally and lots of restarts etc in that time frame. The WLC must not lose power during that time or be hard reset as it will crash the WLC and potentially make it unrecoverable.

If that doesn't work we can talk about TAC :).

Good luck!

Ric

ok thank you so much, I believe that I make this configuration this  weekend :)

Unfortunately we still have the problem, but yesterday I could verify that the licenses are in use, but for some reason the controller recognizes the AP but then tells them that all the radios must be disabled, we have these problems since we tried to configure SSO without success , any idea what could we do? We even think about to usea a default factory reset to solve the problem and configure everything again ... but we do not know if by doing this process we can delete the licenses

Hi,

What model AP are you using and how is it powered? The AP seems to be disabling its radios due to low PoE.

but in the first controller does not present this problem ...

AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9

AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9

AIR-CAP1702I-E-K9

AIR-CAP1602I-E-K9

How are the APs powered? Could be a bug I guess... are they on a PoE Switch? If yes, can you do a show power inline and sh version

Thanks,

Ric

APs use POE and work with aruba switches, but the two controllers are on the same network and work with the same switches

Cool, I did notice they were relying on LLDP and wondering why so that makes sense. The 1142s at the least only require 15.4W so you'd expect that not to be an issue.

There is a bug for 8.3.122.0 which I'm wondering is extending to your APs here though I understand you're not experiencing it on the first WLC running the same code.

On a faulty AP can you post a show controllers. I assume they show as radios down on the WLC and you are unable to enable them under the individual radios? Via CLI you can also do:

debug capwap console cli

int do0

no shut

int do1

no shut

end

You can do a wipe config from boot which won't delete the licenses but I don't think that will fix the issue.

Thanks,

Ric
