Question about which WLC and APs to purchase for practicing for the CCNA Wireless Exams

Hi!

I'm wanting to take the CCNA Wireless exams (I've actually got about 15 years of WiFi experience, but the last Cisco AP/BRs I've used were the ancient Aironet 350s.  I used tons of equipment from other vendors).

Since I like practicing at home with live hardware, I was wondering which WLC and APs I should purchase, since I don't want to waste money on older devices that aren't applicable.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Roger,

I would suggest you to get Cisco 2504 controller, from e-bay you should find it in cheap. It can run software versions up to AireOS 8.5.x and should be good enough for your home lab.

AP point of  view couple of 3602 would be good enough. Make sure you get AP with correct regulatory domain that is applicable to your country.

Ensure you get them with correct image on it (for APs, Lightweigth Image, unless you want to put them onto autonomous mode & configure it as root AP,  bridges, etc). For WLC, ensure you get 8.0.x or 8.3.x unless you have access to those images where you can upgrade it by yourself.

Some of basic post may help you to get it started.

WLC 2504 is a start. Make sure there is enough licenses for the APs. 25 AP license would be good.
For APs, 2600/3600 not bad. Don't bother with 3500 and earlier.
