I would take the current config back up & compare it with your existing backup (using notepad++ for example).

Then workout what needs to be applied

why it isnt recommended to restore the configuration?

I haven't done that, not 100% sure if that works, hence suggested a safe approach.

If it is not a production WLC, you can go ahead & test.

Hi,

On the Backup file it will have the set of configuration commands of all the changes done at the WLC. So if you are installing the old backup file, You will lose your new configuration of the WLC.

For example if u created a new Interface recently, But if its not present in Old Backup then you have to create it again.

Take a Backup of the current configuration and verify both the current and Old config backup by using Text Compare Tool .. So that if you want ur new configuration post installation of old backup can be achieve by copy pasting the new commands to old backup file.

If you know the backup config is what is “good”, then you can just download that to the controller. The controller will reboot after the config has successfully been downloaded to the controller. I just recently rebuilt around 160 controllers in which I took a good backup and edited it to create a new one. Unless you have done that before and have tested your config, you need to be careful editing it as TAC doesn’t support creating your own config but restoring from existing is supported.
