RF tech question

I have a question about RF tech.

My company is notebook manufacturer.

We produce many kind of notebook and include wireless lan card(802.1b).

The default wireless lan card is using channel 6.

So, We have thousand of notebook in channel 6 at manufacturer building testing.

I'm wondering that if I build cisco wireless AP in my manufacturer building.

The wireless access point use chennel 1,6, 11.

Do notebooks wireless eating channel 6 bandwidth even these notebooks don't connect to AP.

What happen in channel 6 ??

Cisco clients (and I assume most other clients) scan all 802.11 channels looking for "the best" AP to associate to. More info on client roaming behaviour (what "the best" actually means) is available at www.cisco.com/go/srnd -> select "Wireless LAN Fast Secure roaming"

Cisco APs also have the capability to "search for least congested channel", meaning that (if so configured) when they power on they will configure themselves to operate on the channel on which they detect the least amount of traffic (the administrator can restrict the channels the AP will use - typically restricting to just 1, 6, and 11).

If you are testing a lot of notebooks and one Cisco AP, I would install at least 3 APs, each AP on a non-overlapping channel 1,6 and 11

The notebooks will scan for the best channel possible.

Each AP should be able to handle 25 clients simultaneously.
