I'm hoping somebody can help me
in our organization we have WISM-1 (module on C6500). we bought a new c3850 and we want to set it as anchor in DMZ. but unforgettably we cant make it. it gives us both control link state and data link state DOWN. even I connect it before firewall.
my question is can we do that or 3850 can not communicate with wism-1 ?

3850 cannot operate as an anchor controller.
It can only used as a Foreign WLC in guest environment.
Refer below for configuration required in case if you mix of AireOS and IOS-XE platform that require communication between each other.

Yes.
As long as you enable "new mobility" on a AireOS controller you can mix 3850 WLC and AireOS WLCs in same mobility group (for roaming purposes)
But you need to remember that Cisco is not recommending this mix approach any more. Since 8.1 onward AireOS controller does not support mobility controller functionality, so not thorough testing are conducted for mix mode feature support.
So if you are looking at long term strategy, I do not go with mix 3850 with AireOS controllers in same mobility domain. But in short term you can get it work
