I've tried images from 8.5 to the latest 8.10 with the same result.  From what I've seen thus far, you can't clear up space manually, so I'm not sure how to go about upgrading the controller.

What is the exact model of this WLC?  There is no such thing as a "5504".  It is either a 5508 or a 5520.

IF this is a 5508, the "highest" train it will support is 8.5.X.X.

5520 will support up to 8.10.X.X.

Apologies.  I've corrected the title and  post with the correct information.

WTF is going on with my coffee!!!!

I know what is going on:  Currently the 5508 is on 8.0 and you want to upgrade to 8.5.

Well, it cannot be done.  You need to upgrade first to 8.2.16X.0 or 8.3.X.X and then upgrade to 8.5.X.X.

This behaviour is sometimes documented in the Release Notes.

If you are using Release 8.2.15x or earlier, we recommend that you upgrade to Release 8.2.16x or 8.3.x and then upgrade to Release 8.5.140.0.

Leo, you're absolutely right.  I had a brain freeze for a moment and was looking at images for the 3500 controllers. I'll get to downloading the proper images and work on getting that uploaded.

I don't know what I was thinking.

Hi

 Which 8.5 did you try?

You can go to 8.5.140.0 from 8.0 .

 Upgrade the FUS as well:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_1_7_0_0.html

I tried 8.5.182.  I'll download 8.5.140 and look at upgrading the FUS as well.  I'll post the results when I've got that done.
