Hello I need to upgrade the firmware on the WLC (from 7.0.2 to 8.4?) however, i have more than 50 APs connected on the main WLC, and i don't want to upgrade all of them in 1 shot. I have a backup WLC, so can i upgrade 1 WLC (the backup one) and migrate 1 by 1 all my APs so it will automaticly upgrade once i move it to the backup one (in v8.4)?
Is that a good idea?
Will it work?
Any other ideas simple to setup?
Thanx for all answers.
B.

You might want to perform the pre image download which will save you some time. You can upload the code to each WLC and reboot only the backup. Then on the primary where all the APs are, you push the new code to the APs. Then you can move the APs one by one or all together it's up to you. This should only take less than 5 minutes. Please look at this link

Hello,
thanx for the answer, but i don't understand the process.
If i want to predownload the image to the AP, does it mean that the WLC should already be in the version o the Predownloaded image?
I don't really understand the purpose of predownload...
What about my id, will it work if i just upgrade the backup WLC and just push the APs on this WLC.
Will they upgrade automaticly?
Once they all upgrade, i take care of the other one, i upgrade it, and re-move the APs to this one, will it works?

You can upload the image to the WLC without rebooting the WLC. The reboot is required if you want to run the new firmware. So when the code has been uploaded to the WLC, rebooted or not, you can pre download the ap image to each ap.
