Can I use a 4.1 WCS with WLCs running 4.0 code?

Hi Paul,
Yes, this is a supported configuration (Note: you can't do the opposite WLC 4.1 with WCS 4.0)
Compatibility
This release of Cisco WCS (4.1.91.0) for Windows or Linux is compatible with wireless LAN controller and Cisco Aironet lightweight access point release 3.2.78.0 or later.
Note: You may experience compatibility issues if you add a controller with a newer release than the WCS release. For example, 4.1.171.0 controller software release should not be added to WCS 4.0.

Hi Konrad,
There have been 5 releases since 2.0.42.0 and the latest release is 3.0.37.0 It is usually recommended to not get too far behind on releases due to the number of bug fixes and enhancements in each new release. While the versions of WLC,WCS and Location that you are running are supported, 2.0.42.0 was released when the 3.x train of controllers was out so that is a bit of a "Red Flag". If you ever have a problem that requires TAC assistance they will almost surely ask you to upgrade to a much newer version right away.
These release notes describe features, enhancements, and caveats for software release 2.0.42.2 for Cisco Location Appliances. This release of location appliance software supports both Cisco 2700 and 2710 location appliances and operates with Cisco Wireless LAN Solution versions 3.2, 3.1, and 3.0.

This is probably a good choice;
