WebAuth "Done" wait time

We're running a guest wifi, with a WebAuth, set in passthrough mode. This is so our guests don't have to input anything. When the user connects with their iphone, captive portal kicks in and launches a WebAuth T&C page in the browser. They simply click the "Accept" button.

That part works fine. Once the accept button is hit, the page is replaced with the usual grey screen that says successful and at the top and a URL redirect is loaded. During this waiting period, the grey screen stays put and there's a "Cancel" link in the top corner that eventually changes to "Done".

Its this transition period that is confusing our guests. This page stays at trying to load the redirected URL for anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Needless to say, that's not a favorable experience for our guests.

The interesting thing is, the WebAuth is successful. their client status authenticated so the messages do get to the controller to auth the client. we are also able to access the web during this waiting period.

This seems to only happen with apple devices.

We are running a HA pair of Flex7510's, with all over 2200 AP's, ranging in models 2702, 3702, 3502, 1532's, all in FlexConnect mode. Code level is 8.0.120.8, which is bug release by TAC for a different issue we had with 1532's. We are advised by TAC and our SE to stay away from 8.1

The network topology is a typical MPLS network, where the WLC is in a Data Center for control traffic, and DIA for locally switched Internet access. The url that they're being redirected to, once WebAuth is successful, resolves to a public IP and routable via the local Internet connection.

Anyone else run into issues with WebAuth hanging for an extended period of time after accepting the basic terms and conditions?

We've run into this problem, turned out it was our in line web filter at fault. If your getting that grey screen saying connection successful as we were, I'd look elswhere on your network.
