Why "show advanced 802.11b sum" in 4400 doesn't show the "Mac Add" information?

Hi All,

Using the "show advanced 802.11b sum" on a 5500 WLC produces the follwing headings:

(Controller name>show advanced 802.11b sum

AP Name    MAC Address     Admin State  Operation State   Channel TxPower
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

xxxxx     xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx     ENABLED     UP                         1*          3(*)

Whereas the same command on a 4400 WLC display ONLY the following heading:

(Controller name>show advanced 802.11b sum

AP Name     Channel     TxPower Level
--------------------------------------------------------
ap name          1*               4*

Question: Why is this and how can I get the "MAC Address" information on the 4400 series?

Any help is much appreciated.

What's the firmware for both the 4400 and the 5500?

Hi,

As Leo has pointed above, this is related to software.

A 4400 series WLC running a firmware lower than 5.2 and below would not show the AP, mac address in this command.

It was added in release 6.0 and above releases.

You could see the same from command reference guide :-

5.2 command reference guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5.2/command/reference/cli52.html#wp1318096

6.0 command reference guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/6.0/command/reference/cli60.html#wp1318096

You could use 'show ap summary' to see AP name and ethernet MAC of every AP.

If you want to see radio MAC, you could try  'show ap config {802.11{a | b} | general} cisco_ap '

Madhuri

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am looking for the radio MAC. I tired the show ap config 802.11b but it doesnot produce the disired ouput.

I have 54 access points. The "Sh advanced 802.11b summary" command, on a 5500, lists the needed information for all APs in one screen. There must be a way to do the same in 4400!

Hi,

A 4400 series WLC running firmware 6.0 and above would give you the same desired results.

Would you like to consider the option of upgrading firmware of 4400 series WLC ?

Madhuri
