WinXP LAN connection systray icon

I am installing a client to a windows XP notebook. The ACU shows that the client is connected to the AP and really is connected when I pinged it. But the system tray icon of the LAN connection shows otherwise. It has the red X across it. Is there a bug between the OS and the client driver?

Here's something you can try:

open control panel -> network connections -> then properties of the wireless card. You should see a tab at the top wireless networks. Under that you should see a check box "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" ... uncheck this box.
