Hi,

I would like to know whether the ff: AP's could run on Autonomous mode bu either means of a firmware or other method and non reliance on the controllers.

Yes they can. The autonomous firmware for the 1550's is for surveying. Also note that autonomous code doesn't give you the features you get from a WLC like CleanAir or Mesh.
