We have wireless network with a WLC 5508 and 30 AP

We have 3 SSID:

Guest ( no authentincation)

Vip ( 802.1x)

Staff ( web authentication)

SSID Guest and Vip work well without problem.

SSID Staff usually have around 40 clients, about 8 of them  work wel, all other clients (around 32)  will automatic logout after 5  minutest to 10 minutes connect to the SSID Staff. client timeout of SSID staff is 7200s. Clients are  Iphones, Ipads, androids, laptops. We use internal web authentication.

Could you help me identify the problem ?

Thank you.

There isn't a doc. Just search the forum as changing the idle time is the fix for iOS devices.

Set the idle timer to around 2-4 hours and that will fix the issue. When an iPhone or iPad goes to sleep, they will timeout after 300 seconds which is the default idle timer. This doesn't affect any other type of devices, just iOS.

thank Scot Fella, so many clients get the same problem make me confuse

Only iOS devices will timeout after 5 minutes. All the others will timeout after the session timer which I normally set to 8-12 hours or if they disconnect, or switch to a different Ssid.

Newer WLC code versions have the idle timer on the WLAN or else it is located on the GUi's Controller tab.

I have setup client timeout of SSID Staff is 7200s on WLC

You need to set the idle timer and that has to be lower than the session timer

I would set the idle timer to 7200 and the session to 14400.
