wireless connectivity issue with 802.11g/n & 802.11a/n

Hi All,

one of our client have 2 WiSM2 running active-active, there are around 130 Cisco lightweight AP 2602 series.

most of the APs are quite near to each other and there are about 18 SSID.

currently one of the issue we are facing is that when client's are connected to 802.11g channel, they lost connectivity intermittently, when we do a continuous PING the time jumps between 300ms - 4500ms intermittently or timeout...

however when client's are connected to 802.11a channel, the connectivity are stable and the continuous PING time is between 10ms - 30ms

this is puzzling us and we are not sure what is causing the connectivity issue, could it be interference between APs ?

Hope you guys will enlighten me if you also come across such issue and found a solution.

look into channel utilization, I bet you see high channel utilization in 2.4G.

first disable 11b rate and then reduce the ssid... per radio 16 is the max number, looks like you use ap grp. why so many ssids in same area?

Please check the channel utilization. This may be the main cause of connectivity issue.

18 SSID????  Are you serious?

Are you saying that all your APs are broadcasting 18 SSID?  I hope this is a type-o because IT'S NOT POSSIBLE to broadcast more than 16 SSID.  The maximum limit is 16 SSID.

So your ping is OK when 802.11a but it's bad when it's 802.11b?

If this is the case, then I'd like to know what Data Rates are enabled on 802.11 b/g radio.  Try to disable the data rates from 12 Mbps and below.  Make 18 Mbps as "Mandatory" and the rest are "Supported".

Well don't know if you can possible tweak a wifi environment with that many SSIDs. Like everyone stated, try to reduce this down to 3-4 if possible.

There can be more issues than that, but that's a good start. Some thing are not fixable without making changes.

Disable a bunch of SSIDs on the 2.4ghz and see if that helps. If not, then you have more issues you will need to try to find.

One access point broadcasting 16 wlans will use about 20% channel utilization .. That's a single ap .. Add more aps in close proximity your channel utilization will go through the roof ..
