Wireless Guest fails to obtain IP addresses

This issue started several years ago. When the user tries to connect to the WiFi, it is stuck at the "Obtaining IP Address" status, and then stops. The model for the WLC is 2504 Series WLAN Controller. Attached is the configuration for the Interface for the guest network.

Thanks a lot!

what code version running on WLC ? any other SSID working as expected on this controller ?

Do you have VLAN Interface for this ? it show as 0 ?

where is this IP configured ? 172.16.1.1 ? also you mentioned this as DHCP do have reachability ?

try some debug :

Kindly provide more relevant and useful information:

  1. Is this issue only affecting the Guest SSID/Interface?
  2. What firmware is the WLC running on?
  3. Have you checked the DHCP server if the request(s) are coming in or not?
  4. Has the wireless client authenticated?

Thanks Everyone for your feedback/questions! Below are answers to all your questions:

To balaji.bandi:

  1. what code version running on WLC ? --> 8.3.132.0,  any other SSID working as expected on this controller ? --> yes, another SSID with "management" interface works fine.
  2. Do you have VLAN Interface for this ? it show as 0 ? Yes, we do.
  3. where is this IP configured ? 172.16.1.1 ? --> Cisco ASDM 79(1) Firewall, also you mentioned this as DHCP do have reachability ? --> I just did the ping, no response.

To Leo LaoHoo:

  1. Is this issue only affecting the Guest SSID/Interface? --> Yes, it only happens to Guest SSID/Interface. Another SSID with "management" interface is running fine.
  2. What firmware is the WLC running on? --> 8.3.132.0
  3. Have you checked the DHCP server if the request(s) are coming in or not? --> No
  4. Has the wireless client authenticated? --> No

I ran the configuration file, and did not see any significant errors. I guess I should look at DHCP server.

Thanks a lot!

Create a open SSID or a PSK SSID and use the same Guest interface.  Does it work or not?

I have suggestion here,
even if it guest the WLC have info. about the user....
so we need to make WLC clear the client info. form it db and start server the client as new client,
try USER IDLE TIMEOUT
check if the issue is solve and if YES then adjust timeout according to your requirement.
