Wireless issues

Ranamohit54

I have a situation where the user is able is having slow connection issues when in a room connected to the same AP . but its perfectly fine when outside that room .

RSSI and SNR are -51 and 44 db respectively .
The AP is just outside the room. Users connected to the same AP outside the room doesnt have any issues at all. Connection speed when checked on WLC is 400mbps when outside the room for the user. and when inside the room its 1mbps. I have checked with multiple users the issue remains.

There are no channel interference i can confirm that. this AP has the same profile as that other AP's on the same floor. nothing different on this particular AP.

I have checked the WLAN report , and compared for both user is inside the room and outside the room . i couldnt find anything that may be creating the issue.

I can provide you the debug reports if someone can please help.

There is no guarantee that a user inside a room is/will connect to the AP inside the room.

At the end of the day, the wireless client makes the ultimate decision which AP to join.  If the wireless NIC driver has never been updated or the wireless NIC driver is buggy, then there is a strong chance the WiFi experience will be bad.

Without any proof that the wireless client is connected to the inside/outside AP, all bets are off.

I would like to check what band of the inside AP the wireless NIC is joined to.  Is the wireless NIC connected to 2.4 Ghz or 5.0 Ghz?

Next, check the RF of the AP, Clean Air of that AP.

Thank you for replying Leo

There is no guarantee that a user inside a room is/will connect to the AP inside the room - I have checked on the wlc , its shows that its connected to the same AP. That AP is just outside the room . there is no AP inside the room .

At the end of the day, the wireless client makes the ultimate decision which AP to join. If the wireless NIC driver has never been updated or the wireless NIC driver is buggy, then there is a strong chance the WiFi experience will be bad.--- But why is it happening to everyone who connects to the wifi within the room have issues . they all connects to the same access point and why they all have good connection speed when they are just outside the room connecting to the same AP.

I have checked the check the RF of the AP, Clean Air of that AP. There are no issues been observed on that side.

the wireless NIC connects to 5ghz

I have attached a debug report. Is it possible that if you can review and see if there are any issues . may be i am unable to clearly view it.

Thanks in advance

Can you share

As @Leo Laohoo mention the client join to two AP (as @marce1000 show above)

This menaing that AP outside have good RF than inside

@Ranamohit54

Sounds to me like sticky client problem. People walk to this room but remain connected wherever they were priviously. You should consider move the AP to inside the room.

In order to test, ask people, or do yourself, to turn the wifi off while going to the room and turn the wifi on only inside the room.

There is only 1 AP. i.e CCENLIBL03AP05. I am not sure why speed is 400 mbps when the user is connected to same AP (CCENLIBL03AP05 ) outside the room and 1mbps inside the room when connected to this Ap (CCENLIBL03AP05) .

defintely the user will be connected to this AP as its the only one nearby and rest of them are far.

What is the driver version of the wireless NIC?

What is the firmware of the WLC (include SMU/APSP version)?

What is the model of this AP in question?

What is the uptime of "CCENLIBL03AP05"?

I’m experiencing a similar issue with one of our APs. Users connected to the same AP outside the room have great speeds, but inside, they’re getting really slow connections. The RSSI and SNR are decent, so it’s puzzling. I’ve ruled out channel interference and confirmed the AP profile is consistent with others on the floor. Id love to see if anyone has any ideas or solutions, especially if you’ve encountered this before. I can share debug reports too if that would help!

@soris48021 why not open a new thread so that folks don't get confused on who asked what.  Every environment is different and what you are experiencing might not be the same case as what the OP is experiencing.

Quick question here,
Why are you using 6,0 data rate ? Is any reason to do that?

Supported Rates : 6.0,12.0,18.0,24.0,36.0,48.0,54.0

I suggest to remove 6.0 and try it again. Probably you will need to see from the client itself the difference between the both locations with a wireless software.

You can also get the information from the AP itself with the command show dot11 client -  please run the command when the connection is good and whent he connection is bad. You should see some difference here.
