Wireless QOS

Need Help!

I want to test Wireless QOS in enterprise production network, running two Cisco WLCs and 1240 AG LAPs.

Is that possible to test QOS on test SSID and check in production environment without messed up with network or please suggest any better way. secondly I want to apply Voice, video and sepesific IP protocol to prioritize traffic above data but using only 1 SSID for example SSID abc.

Please explain.

Create an additional test ssid and mark it with voice (platinum) QoS. It doesn't mean that it only does voice tagging. It means that it accepts tagging for all classes up to voice (=all classes actually).

Yes because If I choose silver which is 3 than any packet coming having tag 5 will be over write to 3 automaticalyy Iam I write?. but what about my rest of te requirments (

secondly I want to apply Voice, video and sepesific IP protocol to  prioritize traffic above data but using only 1 SSID for example SSID  abc

)

Well I think I answered it, create one test SSID, mark it for voice.

You can then use it to test voice, video, data, all you want.

If you want to prioritize certain protocols, don't look at the WLC, it's not the one doing that. WLC just transfers Qos tags from your wireless clients to wired and from the wired to the wireless clients.

OK, do you have any document link related to my question. I read many but little confuse. If you suggest to read to understand more about that.

Thanks.

I have littile confusion still about QOS profiles and WLAN IDs. I want just one SSID/ WLAN ID and want to prioritize voice and video traffic  over data using single SSId/WLAN ID.

Asking the same question for the 3rd time will give you the same answer for the 3rd time :-)

Create one SSID and put it platinum QoS. This serves voice, video, best effort, and background QoS levels.

It is better to ask 100 times to clear for clear understanding:)) I am glad for support.I have to test this in live network thats why asking:)

Ok I understand I choose max platinuim QOS. Voice data will get highest Qos for voice for example Qos 6 in IEEE and 5 use in IETF baed for Cisco.I will use 5 in this case1.

Case1

if the same client send video and data how it will handle??? video QOS is 4 for example will it be change to 5 as I choose Platinuim profile vise versa for data.

If the WLC receives a best effort packet from wireless it will copy it on the wired with best effort.

If it receives a voice packet, it will copy it with voice tagging.

Etc... etc ...

It just copies the tag (there's actually a matching table because priority numbers are slightly different on wireless but ok ...).

Saying platinum QoS means that WLC will allow all priorities.

If you set best-effort QoS level on the SSID, it means that if the clients send voice prio, they will be overriden with best effort.

If you set video QoS level, it meanst hat best effor will be kept best effort and video will be kept video.

Voice (platinum) means that all levels are allowed.

In cisco implementation documents they use seperate WLANs/ SSIDs for different profiles, for voice PLATINIUM for video GOLD etc and associate with their SSIDS. It will show several SSID to cleint PC That is quiet difficult in enterprise environment. I want One SSID which which will shown on client PC but and will perform QOS for voice video and data according to my settings.

Thats sounds good. It means If GOLD is selected and Voice traffic arrives It will marked as max 4. did you qork on Wireless QOS? any email ID?

not sure which of your reply makes sense ?

As I'm killing myself to say, you don't need to create several SSIDs. One SSID on platinum QoS will work. End of story.

Yep I understand what you mean. Looking for testing soon:)))) Have U done your all wirless certifications. Did you work with WLCs?
